From the vaults of Void+1 Laboratories emerges the final artifact of the label’s “Year-2” cycle: “Reinstate”, a dystopian offering by Znzl, where every element feels stripped to its core and charged with creative potency that resonates like an incantation across the bottomless digital abyss.
While the EP title might have been coincidental (spoiler alert: there’s no such thing), it serves as an uncanny retrocausality, foreshadowing the ethos of the label’s sound for 2025.
“Orbital Downpour” is a relentless peak-time track with an “evil grin”, immediately contrasted (or expanded upon depending on your interpretation) by “Hush”, a twisted, machine-funk-infused techno tune that feels like an overly talkative robot is being silenced by its own compulsions while “Rescaler” holds a masterclass in bridging the past and future, with an impeccable nod to mid-2000s minimal. The EP concludes with “Other Sights”, a triumphant freeflow across the digital abyss.
“Reinstate” isn’t just the conclusion of Void+1’s “Year-2”; it’s the beginning of a new era.
